In 2012, the OSCD Foundation hosted the first All Alumni Dinner and Inaugural Wall of Distinction Induction. This district celebration of achievement was the successful culmination of many hours of planning and work by a dedicated Board committee, headed by Laura "Sue" Laurin Tyler.
To celebrate graduates who have made an outstanding contribution in their field and/or to recognize retirees and others who have served the Oneida City School District with distinction. To inspire future students to strive toward future successes and accomplishments.
Who May Be Considered For The OCSD Foundation Wall of Distinction ?
Nominees eligible for selection to the Wall of Distinction will have exemplified the tenets of the OCSD educational philosophy throughout their lives. Alumni must have graduated from Oneida High School ten years prior to their nomination. Employees of the OCSD must be retired five years prior to their nomination. If they are an alumni and an employee of OCSD they must satisfy the conditions of retirement as well before they can be nominated.
The 11th Annual Wall of Distinction Induction and Alumni Dinner was held Saturday September 23rd 2023 @ Theodore's Restaurant.
It was a wonderful evening on September 24th as we honored the
2022 OCSD Foundation's Wall of Distinction inductees.
Terrance "Terry" Yardley, OHS 1970, distinguished himself in both the classroom and the athletic fields. He returned to the OCSD as a Social Studies teacher and coach for several sports, retiring in 2009.
Barry Zebley (posthumously honored) OCSD Social Studies educator and Department Chair who served the district for 36 years.
Ronald Jones was a 1947 graduate of OHS. He went on full scholarship to Yale, and earned his law degree at Harvard. His focus was energy and environmental law. He will be posthumously honored.
David McKenas, M.D., M.P.H., was born and raised in Oneida. A musical prodigy, he went on to a career n the medical profession, working for NASA and American Airlines. David was instrumental in having defibrillators and advanced medical equipment on all US commercial airplanes.
Robert Moher, OHS 1970, rose through the ranks at Oneida Ltd. Silversmiths to lead their Retail Sales Division as Marketing Director. He started his own design and marketing business and counts the Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, NY, the Rome Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Utica Sports Hall of Fame, among his well -known actualized designs.
Leo Matzke will also be posthumously honored. He was an elementary classroom teacher for 30 years, director of the Madison Co. Children's Camp, and a multi-sport coach. He served the City of Oneida as a Councilman for 20 years, and as Mayor for 3 terms.
The Foundation held the 2021 Induction Dinner on Saturday, September 25th, 2021
at Theodore's Restaurant on Rt. 5, Canastota.
